This bill would establish the position of Prison Oversight Coordinator in the Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts to monitor and inspect the activities and treatment of inmates in correctional facilities of the Department of Corrections. This bill would prohibit discrimination or retaliation against any person for cooperating with the prison oversight coordinator. This bill would provide for the investigation and special prosecution of criminal activity in correctional facilities. This bill would also establish the Corrections Oversight Board and would provide for its appointment, powers, and duties.
