This bill authorizes municipalities within Escambia County to contract with the Sheriff of Escambia County for police services. Under the new provisions, the sheriff and his or her deputies will have the authority to enforce laws, including municipal ordinances, within the municipality's corporate limits and police jurisdiction. Municipalities entering into such contracts are required to pay a sum to the county treasury to cover the necessary manpower and equipment, as agreed upon by the municipal governing body, the sheriff, and the county commission. The county commission will manage these funds and may use them for police services in the municipality, with each contract requiring the consent of both the sheriff and the county commission.

Additionally, the bill allows the Escambia County Commission to provide a supplemental salary to the sheriff for performing additional duties related to these contracts. This supplemental salary will be separate from the sheriff's regular salary and will cease if either the county commission or the sheriff withdraws from the agreement. The bill also ensures that the supplemental salary will not affect the compensation of any supernumerary sheriff in the county. The act is set to take effect on June 1, 2026.
