This bill establishes a new booking fee of thirty dollars ($30) to be assessed against each defendant who is incarcerated or booked in the Randolph County Jail, provided they are convicted of or plead guilty in cases prosecuted in the circuit or district court. The clerk of court is responsible for entering this fee on the docket sheet and collecting it alongside other court costs. Importantly, this booking fee is in addition to any other fines or charges and cannot be waived unless all other associated fees are also waived.

Furthermore, the bill mandates that the collected booking fees be remitted monthly to the Sheriff of Randolph County, who will deposit the funds into the Law Enforcement Fund established under Section 45-56-232.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975. This fund is designated for law enforcement purposes within the county. The act is set to take effect on October 1, 2026.
