The bill amends Section 32-6-271 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to expand the eligibility for the firefighter distinctive license plate to include fire chaplains who are members of the Alabama Fellowship of Fire Chaplains. The new provisions require that applicants provide proof of their membership in good standing through an affidavit signed by the organization's president. Additionally, the bill specifies that the distinctive license plates will feature a red Maltese cross emblem and the words "Fire Fighter" at the bottom, and it establishes a criminal penalty for individuals who falsely obtain or certify someone to obtain these plates, classifying such actions as a Class C misdemeanor.

Furthermore, the bill introduces an annual additional fee of one dollar for the firefighter distinctive license plate, which will be allocated to support the Alabama Firefighter Memorial and the Firefighter Peer Support Program. The funds generated from this fee will be subject to audit every three years, and the bill outlines that the distinctive license plates are to be used solely on personally owned, private passenger vehicles registered in the applicant's name. The act is set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
