The Alabama Legislature has proposed a resolution to honor the United States Army, Navy, and Marine Corps as part of the statewide initiative by the Alabama Semiquincentennial Commission, leading up to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. This resolution recognizes the historical significance of these military branches, which were established in 1775, and their vital contributions to the security and prosperity of the nation. Alabama, home to numerous military installations and approximately 400,000 veterans, is proud to be one of the most veteran-friendly states in the country.
The resolution calls for commemorative activities to celebrate the 250th anniversaries of the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps, with specific dates for cake-cutting ceremonies: June 14, 2025, for the Army; October 13, 2025, for the Navy; and November 10, 2025, for the Marine Corps. It encourages military installations, veterans, and all Alabamians to participate in these observances. Additionally, copies of the resolution will be distributed to military leaders and veterans organizations to foster a collective expression of gratitude for the service and sacrifice of those who have served in these branches of the Armed Forces.
