The resolution honors Team 14180A, known as The Super Novas, from Peter F. Alba Middle School for their impressive achievement of finishing fourth out of 85 teams at the 2025 Middle School CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The team, comprised of five talented students—three eighth graders and two seventh graders—has demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the competition. Their success is attributed to the expert guidance of retired Staff Sergeant Wesley Porter, who received the Mentor of the Year award at the tournament and was also recognized as Teacher of the Year at the Alabama State Robotics Championship.
In addition to their notable fourth-place finish, The Super Novas have garnered several awards this year, including the St. Martin's Jackets Teamwork Champion Award and the MCPSS LOTC Excellence Award, among others. The resolution expresses the Alabama House of Representatives' highest commendations and congratulations to the team for their accomplishments and wishes them continued success in their future endeavors.
