The resolution recognizes Steve Swofford, CEO of Alabama Credit Union, for his remarkable 40-year career and significant contributions to the credit union movement. Beginning his journey with the Alabama Credit Union League in the 1980s, Swofford played a pivotal role in establishing 17 new credit unions and developing the "Developing Credit Union" program, which has provided a framework for success for numerous credit unions. His commitment to the industry is further evidenced by his facilitation of over 300 strategic planning sessions, showcasing his dedication to the growth and advancement of credit unions.
Additionally, Swofford's influence extends beyond Alabama, as he has supported the development of credit unions internationally in cities such as Birmingham, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. Since joining Alabama Credit Union in 1998, he has garnered numerous accolades while prioritizing the legislative and regulatory needs of credit unions at both state and federal levels. In recognition of his outstanding service, he will be honored as the "Distinguished Service Recipient" by the League of Credit Unions and Affiliations, along with member credit unions from several states, on June 11, 2025.
