The bill amends Section 45-3-84.40 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to establish a new compensation structure for the Judge of Probate of Barbour County, effective October 1, 2025. The current provision that the judge's salary is determined by the Barbour County Commission and is subject to a minimum salary requirement has been replaced. Instead, the judge will receive an annual salary equal to 70 percent of the salary paid to a state district court judge with equivalent years of service, including adjustments for cost-of-living and years of service. The bill also stipulates that this salary will be paid in equal periodic installments from the county general fund, replacing any prior compensation or salary arrangements.

Additionally, the bill introduces new provisions that require the judge to waive any compensation related to reports from the state voter registration list in order to receive the specified salary. It also allows for reimbursement of travel expenses for the judge in the same manner as other county employees. The previous provisions regarding the payment of fees and expenses to the judge have been deleted, streamlining the compensation process and ensuring that the judge's salary is the sole form of remuneration.
