This bill amends Section 45-40-230 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to establish a new compensation structure for the Sheriff of Lawrence County. The current provision that states the sheriff's salary will be effective from the next term of office is deleted, and instead, it is specified that the sheriff will receive the salary they were earning as of December 28, 2001. Additionally, starting October 1, 2025, the sheriff will receive an expense allowance that will increase their total compensation to $95,000 per year, payable in equal installments from the county general fund.

Furthermore, beginning January 19, 2026, the sheriff's total base salary will be set at $95,000 per year, which will replace the previous salary and expense allowance provisions. This new salary will also void any other fees or allowances previously paid to the sheriff. The bill ensures that the sheriff will continue to receive any cost-of-living increases granted to county employees thereafter. The act is set to take effect on October 1, 2025.
