The bill authorizes municipalities within Coffee County to enter into contracts with the Sheriff of Coffee County for the provision of police services. Under the new legal language, the sheriff and his or her deputies will have the authority to enforce laws, including municipal ordinances, within the municipality's corporate limits and police jurisdiction, effectively acting as police officers for the municipality. The municipalities are required to pay a sum to the county treasury to cover the necessary manpower and equipment, as agreed upon by the municipal governing body, the sheriff, and the county commission.

Additionally, the county commission is responsible for receiving the funds from the municipalities and may use them for police services within the municipalities. Each contract must be approved by both the sheriff and the county commission, and the sheriff and deputies will retain their legal and constitutional immunity while performing duties under these contracts. The act is set to take effect on June 1, 2025.
