The bill amends Section 45-50-230 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to adjust the compensation structure for the Sheriff of Monroe County. It establishes that until January 18, 2027, the sheriff will maintain the same base annual salary as of May 31, 2025. Starting October 1, 2025, the sheriff will receive an additional expense allowance of $15,000 per year, payable in monthly installments from the county general fund, which will be treated as salary for retirement purposes.

Furthermore, beginning January 18, 2027, the sheriff's base salary will increase by $15,000 per year, while the previously established expense allowance will be repealed. The bill also deletes previous provisions regarding the sheriff's compensation, including a $10,000 expense allowance and additional salary increases that were contingent on statewide law changes. The act is set to take effect on June 1, 2025.
