The Alabama House of Representatives has passed a resolution to honor Lucca, a German Shepherd-Belgian Malinois mix, for her extraordinary service as a K9 war dog with the United States Marine Corps. Over her six years of service, Lucca completed more than 400 missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, where she played a crucial role in detecting explosives and ensuring the safety of American and allied forces, achieving this without any human casualties under her watch. Her bravery was exemplified on March 23, 2012, when she discovered an improvised explosive device (IED) during a patrol, leading to her injury from a subsequent explosion. Despite losing her front left leg, Lucca's actions saved the lives of her fellow Marines.

Following her injury, Lucca received immediate medical care and was honorably retired, later being adopted by her handler, Gunnery Sergeant Chris Willingham. Her remarkable contributions to military service were recognized with several accolades, including the prestigious Dickin Medal, the highest honor for animals in military conflict. The resolution not only honors Lucca's heroism and dedication but also acknowledges her enduring legacy, with copies of the resolution to be presented to her handler and another individual in recognition of her service.
