A native of Selma, Alabama, Ms. Carter has founded several nonprofit organizations aimed at helping oppressed individuals achieve justice. Notably, she co-founded Salute Selma, Inc., which applies lessons from the Civil Rights Movement to modern business practices, and organized the first-ever Black Women Led March in 2020, commemorating the historic Selma to Montgomery March. Additionally, she has served as the National Coordinator for the Bridge Crossing Jubilee, which reenacts the 1965 march and attracts thousands of supporters, including former U.S. Presidents.
