This bill amends the compensation structure for the Sheriff and Coroner of Houston County, Alabama, establishing new salary figures and repealing outdated provisions. Specifically, starting June 1, 2025, the salary for the Coroner will be set at $22,000 per year, while the Sheriff’s salary will be established at $150,000 per year. Both positions will also receive uniform increases in compensation that are granted to other county employees, including cost-of-living adjustments.

Additionally, the bill amends Section 45-35-70 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to remove previous salary figures for the Sheriff, which were set at $130,800 beginning June 1, 2024, and replaces them with the new salary of $150,000. The bill also repeals Sections 45-35-60 and 45-35-230, which previously outlined the compensation for the Coroner and Sheriff, respectively. The changes are intended to modernize the compensation framework for these positions and ensure they align with current standards for county employees. The act will take effect on June 1, 2025.
