The bill mandates that the Alabama Medicaid Agency provide coverage for specific noninvasive colorectal cancer screening tests that receive a grade A or B from the United States Preventive Services Task Force. The covered tests include the guaiac fecal occult blood test (gFOBT), the fecal immunochemical test (FIT), and the multi-target stool DNA test (sDNA-FIT). Additionally, the bill requires that a colonoscopy be covered if it is performed following a positive result from one of these screening tests.

This new provision will be effective starting October 1, 2025, and is set to be repealed two years after its effective date. The bill includes the insertion of new legal language to establish these coverage requirements and does not indicate any deletions from current law.
