Daniel and Jewel Swope Daniel, was a cherished member of her community, known for her dedication to her family and her significant contributions to local agriculture. She and her husband, Prather Slay, raised five children on their family farm, which was renowned for its produce, particularly its tomatoes. Mrs. Slay was an active participant in the Farmers Federation Women's Committee, serving as its President and was instrumental in promoting agricultural literature through the distribution of "Book Barns" in various locations in Chambers County.

Lillian Slay was also involved with the Hamburg/Five Points Homemakers' Club and Chapel Hill Methodist Church. Her family, including her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of relatives and friends, brought her immense joy. Despite her death preceding that of her parents and husband, her memory and legacy are celebrated by all who knew her.
