The resolution commends James Michael "Mike" Murphy for his induction into the Alabama Sports Officials Hall of Fame, Class of 2024. With over 35 years of experience in basketball officiating at both high school and collegiate levels, as well as eight years in baseball officiating, Murphy has made significant contributions to the sports community. He has served as a board member and assigner for the Capital City Basketball Officials Association and has officiated numerous state tournaments. Additionally, he held the position of Supervisor of Officials for the Gulf South Conference, one of the most respected Division II conferences in the U.S.

Murphy's career highlights include officiating a historic NCAA game where Troy University set a scoring record and working at the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. He has also played a pivotal role in promoting women's participation in basketball officiating, mentoring several women, including Hall of Fame member Mary Day. A graduate of W.A. Berry High School and the University of Montevallo, Murphy has a long-standing career in public service as the Public Relations Officer of the Alabama Senate and continues to serve part-time as a Senate Chamber Front Desk Clerk. The resolution expresses the legislature's high regard for Murphy and extends best wishes for his continued success and well-being.
