St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church is being recognized and congratulated on its 150th anniversary. The church was founded by Colonel Johann Gottgried Cullmann and the first settlers of what would become a town named after him. Initially serving a German-speaking community, the church conducted services in German until 1932, later reducing them due to the town's shift to English, and finally discontinuing German services in 1941. Over the years, the church has been open to pastors from various backgrounds and has undergone several affiliations, including with the German Evangelical Church of North America, the Evangelical and Reformed denomination, and eventually becoming part of the United Church of Christ. Today, St. John's is a member of the Evangelical Association of Reformed and Congregational Christian Churches, maintaining a commitment to serving the community and welcoming all who seek to worship and serve Jesus Christ.
The church, under the leadership of Senior Pastor Reverend Dr. John Richter, continues to be an active community hub, offering worship services, small groups, youth and senior ministries, and community outreach programs. The Alabama House of Representatives resolves to commend St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church on its sesquicentennial celebration, providing this resolution as a testament to the church's esteemed position in the community and extending best wishes for its ongoing prosperity, success, and blessings.
