Catherine King has been honored with the title of Fairhoper of the Year for 2024 in recognition of her significant contributions to the community of Fairhope. After retiring from the University of South Alabama, King immersed herself in local history, volunteering at the Fairhope Museum of History since its inception in 2008. Her dedication has made her a fixture at the museum, where she educates visitors, collaborates with staff, and works alongside other volunteers.
In addition to her museum work, King has been an active member of the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation (FSTC) Archives Committee since 2003. Her efforts have been instrumental in preserving a vast collection of documents, photographs, videos, and other historical materials related to Fairhope. Through her work, these items have been made accessible to the public at no cost, ensuring that the city's history will be available for future generations. The Alabama House of Representatives has resolved to commend Catherine King for her exceptional service and commitment to safeguarding the history of Fairhope.
