The bill proposes amendments to Section 45-49-111.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975, specifically concerning the compensation of election officials in Mobile County. It increases the per day compensation for inspectors from $200 to $250, for chief clerks from $175 to $225, and for other election officers, now referred to as provisional ballot, registration list, ballot distribution, and ballot counter clerks, from $150 to $200. Additionally, the bill increases the compensation for attending mandatory training sessions for inspectors and chief clerks from $30 to $50, and for other election officials from $15 to $25. The bill also confirms that the county treasury, and when appropriate, the treasuries of various municipalities within the county, combined with any amount payable by the state, will cover these compensation amounts.

Furthermore, the bill introduces a new provision allowing the Mobile County Election Official Appointment Board, with the approval of the Mobile County Commission, to appoint computer technical assistants for each election polling place to provide technical assistance during an election. The compensation for these computer technical assistants, as well as their compensation for attending mandatory training sessions, will be determined by the Mobile County Commission. The bill also ratifies and confirms any payments made to election officials in Mobile County during the 2006 election cycle and outlines that the county commission will determine the compensation for the absentee election manager. The act is set to become effective on June 1, 2024.
