This bill amends Section 45-49-111.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to increase the compensation for election officials in Mobile County. Specifically, the daily pay for inspectors is raised from $200 to $250, for chief clerks from $175 to $225, and for provisional ballot, registration list, and ballot distribution and counter clerks from $150 to $200. Additionally, the compensation for attending mandatory training sessions is increased from $30 to $50 for inspectors and chief clerks, and from $15 to $25 for other election officials. The bill also clarifies that the county treasury, along with municipal treasuries, will cover these compensation amounts, and it allows for mileage reimbursement for returning officers.
Furthermore, the bill introduces provisions for the appointment of computer technical assistants at each election polling place, with their compensation to be determined by the Mobile County Commission. The compensation for these assistants for attending mandatory training sessions will also be set by the Commission. The bill ratifies any payments made to election officials during the 2006 election cycle and stipulates that the county commission will determine the compensation for the absentee election manager for a specified period surrounding elections. This act is set to take effect on June 1, 2024.
