The resolution commemorates and honors United States Army Private First Class Noah C. "Pete" Reeves, who was killed in action during World War II and whose remains were recently identified. On March 18, 2024, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced that Pfc. Reeves, who died at the age of 26 on December 6, 1944, in the Hürtgen Forest near Vossenack, Germany, was accounted for on September 12, 2022. His identification tags were handed over by a German officer during a temporary truce, but his body was not recovered after the fighting resumed. Declared "non-recoverable" in 1951, his remains were eventually discovered in 1948 and, following research by a DPAA historian in 2021, were identified using DNA analysis.
Pfc. Reeves was a respected member of his community in Lawrence County, known for his quiet demeanor and blue eyes. Before being drafted and sent to Germany, he worked on a farm and was celebrated by his family at a reunion. The resolution acknowledges the sacrifice of Pfc. Reeves, noting the impact of his story on veterans and the importance of remembering those who have fallen. The Alabama House of Representatives resolves to recognize, commend, and thank Pfc. Reeves posthumously for his service and sacrifice, and a copy of the resolution is to be delivered to his family as a token of gratitude and recognition of his ultimate sacrifice.
