Mulberry Medical Associates, established by Dr. John Jernigan on May 5, 1984, has been recognized for its 40 years of dedicated service to the Montgomery area in Internal Medicine. The practice expanded over the years with the addition of Dr. Joel McCloud and Dr. Norman Taylor in 1991, and later with Dr. Leon Casals and Dr. Mary Casals in 1998, becoming the largest minority medical group in Alabama. The group has served a diverse patient population, including those from underprivileged communities, and has been pivotal in training over 400 health care providers.
In 2014, Mulberry Medical Associates further extended its services by becoming the headquarters for the Special Coroner of Montgomery County, thereby playing a vital role in public health and safety. The dedicated physicians of the group have worked tirelessly in various health care facilities, including Jackson Hospital and Baptist Medical Center. In recognition of their significant contributions to health care and their commitment to the community, the Legislature of Alabama has declared the 40th anniversary of Mulberry Medical Associates as "Mulberry Medical Associates Day" in the state.
