Mulberry Medical Associates, established by Dr. John Jernigan in 1984, has been recognized for 40 years of dedicated service in Internal Medicine to the Montgomery area. The practice expanded over the years with the addition of Dr. Joel McCloud and Dr. Norman Taylor in 1991, and later Dr. Leon Casals and Dr. Mary Casals in 1998, becoming the largest minority medical group in Alabama. They have served a diverse patient base, including the poor and indigent, as well as professionals and physicians, and have been pivotal in training over 400 health care providers.
In 2014, Mulberry Medical Associates further extended its services by becoming the headquarters for the Special Coroner of Montgomery County, enhancing its role in public health and safety. The dedicated physicians of the group have worked tirelessly in various health care facilities, including Jackson Hospital and Baptist Medical Center. In recognition of their significant contributions to health care and the community, the Alabama House of Representatives has declared the 40th anniversary of Mulberry Medical Associates as "Mulberry Medical Associates Day" in the state.
