Under existing law, an unemployed individual must make a reasonable and active effort to secure work for which he or she is qualified to be eligible to receive unemployment benefits. Reasonable and active effort includes contacting at least three prospective employers for each week of unemployment claimed. This bill would increase the number of prospective employers an unemployed individual must contact for each week of unemployment claimed. Also under existing law, an individual may be disqualified for total or partial unemployment benefits if the individual fails to apply for or accept available suitable work. This bill would provide for the meaning of "failure to seek or accept suitable work." This bill would also make nonsubstantive, technical revisions to update the existing code language to current style.
