After serving in the U.S. Army, he returned to Mobile and revitalized his music ministry, eventually becoming the Minister of Music at Mt. Olive No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church. Despite facing significant health challenges, he founded The Cleveland Smith Chorale and later established St. John's Deliverance Temple, which expanded outreach efforts to various underserved populations.
