This resolution honors United States Veteran George Hudson Place on the occasion of receiving his high school diploma. Born on December 29, 1925, George Place left school at the age of 16 to join the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater and was awarded numerous medals. After his discharge, he worked at Brookley Air Force Base and found his passion in making shrimp nets for the Bayou La Batre shrimping community, a craft he has been dedicated to for over seventy years.

The resolution recognizes George Place as a true patriot who sacrificed his education to serve his country. Despite prioritizing the safety and freedom of his fellow citizens over his own educational pursuits, he has gained a lifetime of knowledge and skills. As a hero, he is set to receive his honorary high school diploma from Alma Bryant High School in his hometown on May 14, 2024. The Alabama Legislature conveys its highest commendations and congratulations to Mr. Place for his service and his long-awaited and well-deserved graduation.
