Officer Albert Morin has been awarded the 2024 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, the state's highest law enforcement honor, in recognition of his extraordinary courage. On March 28, 2023, Officer Morin and his partner, Officer Garrett Crumby, responded to a shooting at the Governor's Bend Apartment Complex in Huntsville. Despite receiving a vague report from a woman who had been shot and could not recall the shooter, the officers located the source of the call and approached the apartment, announcing their presence. As they entered, Officer Crumby was fatally shot, and Officer Morin managed to return fire before seeking cover, sustaining life-threatening injuries that required major surgery.
Officer Morin's quick actions during the incident not only halted what could have escalated into a more devastating situation but also led to the eventual surrender of the shooter after a brief standoff. The offender, who had continued to fire shots indiscriminately, was apprehended and charged with the capital murder of a law enforcement officer. The resolution honors Officer Morin's immense bravery and dedication to his duty to protect and serve, dedicating the award to him with the highest gratitude, admiration, and esteem from the Alabama House of Representatives.
