This bill amends Section 45-2-230.03 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to increase the compensation of the Sheriff of Baldwin County. The current salary of $130,000 is set to be raised to $150,000 per year, effective June 1, 2024. The bill specifies that this amount will be provided as an additional expense allowance, payable in equal monthly installments from the county's general fund. Furthermore, it establishes that starting from the next term of office after June 1, 2024, the sheriff will receive this new salary in lieu of any other compensation currently provided by law.

Additionally, the bill includes a provision that if any employee of the Sheriff's office receives a cost-of-living adjustment, the sheriff will also receive the same adjustment. Any increase granted to the sheriff will initially be disbursed as an expense allowance until the end of the current term, at which point it will be converted to salary. The bill effectively replaces the previous compensation structure, as indicated by the deletions of the old salary figures and the insertion of the new amounts. The act is set to take effect on June 1, 2024.
