The bill amends existing legislation regarding the position and compensation of the license commissioner in Calhoun County, Alabama. It replaces the previous provisions concerning the election and term of the license commissioner, which stated that the current commissioner would serve until a successor was elected in 1980. The new language establishes that the term of office for the license commissioner will be six years, starting from January 1981, and outlines the election process, including the requirement for the judge of probate to publish election notices and certify results to the Secretary of State. Additionally, it sets the annual salary for the commissioner at $22,500, to be paid from the county treasury.

Furthermore, the bill introduces new compensation provisions effective July 1, 2024. It stipulates that the commissioner will receive an additional expense allowance of 12.5% of their salary as of June 1, 2024, payable monthly from the county's general fund. Starting with the next term of office after this date, the commissioner's salary will increase to 112.5% of the salary on June 1, 2024, and the previously established expense allowance will be voided. The act is set to take effect on June 1, 2024.
