The bill provides for an increase in compensation for the Coroner of Talladega County, Alabama. Starting from the first month after the bill's effective date, the coroner will receive an additional annual expense allowance of $8,000, which will be paid in monthly installments from the county's general fund. Furthermore, upon the expiration of the current coroner's term, the annual salary for the position will be set at $20,000, also payable in monthly installments. This new salary will replace any other compensation, salary, or expense allowances previously provided by law.
Additionally, the bill repeals Act 2001-491 and any relevant provisions from Act 2097 of the 1971 Regular Session that previously governed the coroner's compensation. The changes outlined in the bill will take effect on June 1, 2024, following the expiration of the current coroner's term.
