This bill pertains to Baldwin County and seeks to amend Section 45-2-240 of the Code of Alabama 1975. The amendment involves increasing the supplemental per diem paid to members of the Baldwin County Board of Equalization from $150 to $200, effective retroactively from January 1, 2024. Additionally, starting after January 1, 2025, this supplemental amount will be subject to an annual increase based on the percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers as published by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. The bill also includes technical revisions to update the existing code language to the current style.

The bill further specifies that board members will be allowed mileage at the same rate as state employees for official business after the annual allowance set by general law has been exhausted. This mileage is to be paid for mileage incurred in any necessary business directly related to the duties of the office. The additional compensation provided by this section will be paid on a pro rata basis by the political subdivisions or funds in the county receiving ad valorem taxes, based on the percentage each political subdivision or fund receives of the total local ad valorem taxes collected in the county. The act is set to become effective on October 1, 2024.
