Coach Carvel William Rowell, Jr. has been honored with induction into the Thomasville High School Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing his significant contributions to sports both as a player and a coach. As a student-athlete at The University of West Alabama from 1962-1966, Rowell excelled in football and baseball, achieving national ranking in football and leading his team to multiple conference titles in baseball. His professional sports career included signing with the Houston Oilers in 1966. As a coach, he led high school teams to state championships in both football and baseball and was previously inducted into The University of West Alabama Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993.

Rowell's coaching tenure at Thomasville High School is particularly notable for his leadership of the "Sensational 17" football team, which had a successful season in 1970-1971. His 1972 baseball team also won the state championship. Beyond his coaching achievements, Rowell is celebrated for his ability to unite people through sports and for the lasting positive impact he has had on his players. The Legislature of Alabama has resolved to commend Coach Rowell for his induction into the Thomasville High School Sports Hall of Fame, offering him their highest admiration and best wishes for his future endeavors.
