This bill proposes amendments to Section 45-49-111.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975, specifically concerning the compensation of election officials in Mobile County. The bill increases the per day compensation for inspectors from $200 to $250, for chief clerks from $175 to $225, and for provisional ballot, registration list, ballot distribution, and ballot counter clerks from $150 to $200. Additionally, the compensation for attending mandatory training sessions is increased from $30 to $50 for inspectors and chief clerks, and from $15 to $25 for other election officials. The bill also confirms that any payments made to election officials during the 2006 election cycle are ratified and confirmed.
Furthermore, the bill introduces a new provision that allows the Mobile County Election Official Appointment Board, with the approval of the Mobile County Commission, to appoint computer technical assistants for each election polling place. The compensation for these computer technical assistants, as well as for their attendance at mandatory training sessions, will be determined by the Mobile County Commission. The bill is set to become effective on June 1, 2024, and was passed by the House on April 30, 2024, and by the Senate on May 8, 2024.
