House Joint Resolution 225, enacted as Act 2023-521, established the Joint Interim Study Commission on Grandparents Raising Grandchildren to address the unique challenges faced by grandparents who take on the responsibility of raising their grandchildren. The original act required the commission to submit its findings, conclusions, and recommendations to the Legislature by the third legislative day of the 2024 Regular Session, after which the commission would be dissolved.

However, recognizing the need for additional time to thoroughly develop its recommendations, the Legislature has resolved to extend the commission's duration. The commission is now tasked with preparing a report to be submitted by the third legislative day of the 2025 Regular Session. Following the submission of this report, the commission will be dissolved and relieved of any further responsibilities. Additionally, the commission is required to provide notice of all meetings, member names, and a copy of the final report to the Secretary of State as mandated by Alabama law.
