This bill pertains to Blount County and includes provisions to adjust the expense allowance and salary of the coroner. The bill stipulates that starting from October 1, 2024, the coroner will receive an additional expense allowance of $18,000 per annum, which is in addition to any other compensation provided by law. This allowance will be paid from the county's general fund. Furthermore, beginning with the coroner's term in January 2027, the annual salary will be set at $30,000 per annum, replacing any other salary, compensation, fees, or allowances, except for health insurance benefits. At this time, the additional expense allowance previously mentioned will become void.

The bill also includes provisions for cost-of-living or other uniform increases in compensation that are granted to county employees, which will be reflected in the coroner's base salary for the next term of office. The Blount County Commission is authorized to cover reasonable and necessary expenses and supplies related to the coroner's duties, including transportation expenses, and may also authorize the appointment and compensation of deputy coroners. The bill repeals Section 45-5-60.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975, which relates to the coroner's salary, effective January 2027. The act is set to become effective on October 1, 2024.
