McGill-Toolen Catholic High School's volleyball team, known as the Dirty Dozen, is recognized and congratulated for winning the 2023 Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 7A State Championship. This victory marks their second consecutive state title and the school's 23rd overall since volleyball became a championship sport in the AHSAA in 1971. The championship match was a repeat of the previous year's final against Bob Jones High School. Throughout the season, McGill-Toolen demonstrated exceptional performance, losing only one match to an in-state rival and not dropping another set against in-state teams for the rest of the year.
The resolution acknowledges the individual team members, including those who were named to the All-Tournament Team, and celebrates the leadership of Head Coach Kate Wood, who has led the team to multiple state championships and final appearances during her tenure. The coaching staff, including Laura Johnson and Samantha Nichols, is also commended for their expertise and guidance. The Alabama Legislature, with both houses concurring, formally congratulates McGill-Toolen's Volleyball Team for their hard work and outstanding achievement in securing the 2023 AHSAA 7A State Championship.
