The bill amends several sections of the Code of Alabama 1975 to adjust the salaries of key officials in Elmore County, specifically the judge of probate, sheriff, and revenue commissioner. The base annual salary for the Judge of Probate is increased from $98,000 to $120,000, with the new salary structure taking effect immediately and superseding any previous compensation. Additionally, the judge will continue to receive any cost-of-living or salary increases approved by the county commission. The sheriff's salary is also raised to $120,000, with additional increments for those who have served multiple terms, reaching up to $150,000 for those who have served three or more full terms. The revenue commissioner's salary is similarly increased from $95,000 to $120,000, with the same provisions for salary increases as the other officials.
Furthermore, the bill repeals Section 45-26-81, which previously outlined the salary of the judge of probate, thereby consolidating the salary provisions into the amended sections. The new salary structures for these officials will be paid in the same manner and at the same time as other county employees. The act is set to become effective on October 1, 2024.
