The bill amends the compensation structure for the Judge of Probate in Lamar County, establishing a new salary of $110,116 per year, effective from the next term of office after June 1, 2024. This salary is inclusive of the judge's responsibilities as chair of the county commission and for administering the one-stop tag program, if applicable. The salary will be funded by the general fund of Lamar County and will serve as the total compensation for the judge, with the exception of additional allowances as specified in subsection (b).
In addition to the base salary, the bill stipulates that the Judge of Probate will receive uniform increases in compensation, including cost-of-living adjustments, that are granted to other county officers. These increases will initially be provided as an additional expense allowance during the judge's term, but will be converted to salary in the subsequent term. The act is set to take effect on June 1, 2024.
