This bill pertains to Macon County and sets forth provisions regarding the salary of the Judge of Probate. It establishes that, effective October 1, 2023, the Judge of Probate's annual salary will be $89,000, payable in equal monthly installments from the county's general fund. This salary replaces any previous salary, expense allowance, or other compensation, with the exception of the expense allowance provided under Act 2017-463, now codified as Section 45-44-11.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975. Additionally, starting October 1, 2024, the Judge of Probate's salary will include any cost-of-living raises or uniform increases in compensation granted to all county employees.
The bill also ratifies and confirms any prior payments made to the Judge of Probate of Macon County from January 15, 2019, until discontinued by the county, which were incorrectly paid through no fault of the judge. Furthermore, the bill repeals Section 45-44-84 of the Code of Alabama 1975, which relates to the salary of the Judge of Probate in Macon County, and any other laws that conflict with this act. The act will become effective immediately upon its passage and approval by the Governor, or upon becoming law without the Governor's signature.
