The resolution honors Trooper Charles May for his nomination for the 2023 Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Life Saving Medal. On January 22, 2022, while off duty, Trooper May responded to a call from Bullock County Sergeant Chad Faulkner to assist in locating a missing hunter, David Washburn, who had been swept away by water from a collapsed beaver dam. Utilizing his knowledge of the area, Trooper May entered the woods, called out for Washburn, and successfully located him despite the hunter's severe condition, which included hypothermia and loss of feeling in his legs.

Trooper May's quick thinking and decisive actions were crucial in saving Washburn's life. He assessed the hunter's injuries, provided him with dry clothing, and carried him approximately 100 yards to his patrol vehicle to help raise his body temperature. After receiving immediate medical attention, it was confirmed that Washburn was suffering from severe hypothermia and may not have survived if not found within the hour. The resolution expresses gratitude and admiration for Trooper May's extraordinary conduct, which exemplifies the dedication of Alabama State Troopers.
