The Cade Noah Act mandates that beginning January 1, 2024, all law enforcement officers certified by the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC) must complete one hour of training every other year focused on interacting with individuals who have sensory needs or invisible disabilities. This training is in addition to existing continuing education requirements and will be provided by a nonprofit organization specializing in this area, at no cost to the state. The training can be delivered either in person or online, and the commission is responsible for ensuring compliance and updating the training content annually to reflect current trends and changes.

Additionally, the bill outlines that APOSTC will review law enforcement agencies' compliance with this training requirement similarly to how it reviews other continuing education mandates. The commission is also empowered to adopt rules for the implementation and administration of the act. The act will take effect on January 1, 2024, following its passage and approval by the Governor.
