The Students' Right to Know Act of 2023 mandates the Alabama Commission on Higher Education to gather and disseminate essential data to assist students in making informed educational and career choices. The commission is required to compile annual statistics on various aspects of higher education, including the 50 most in-demand jobs in the state, average college costs, student loan payments, graduation rates, and average salaries post-graduation. Additionally, the commission will create an interactive online tool called the Student Horizon Database, which will allow students to compare educational programs and their associated costs, graduation rates, and potential salaries.

Furthermore, the act stipulates that the commission will publish a Student Graduate Horizon Scorecard annually, providing high school students with information on high-paying degrees and in-demand jobs. The commission is also tasked with reporting to the Legislature on the effectiveness of postsecondary institutions in aligning their programs with the job market. To facilitate compliance, the commission may utilize existing databases or require colleges and universities to provide necessary data. The act will take effect on January 1, 2024, following approval by the Governor.
