The bill amends Sections 32-6-250 and 32-6-251 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to include the Air Medal among the military awards eligible for commemoration on a distinctive permanent license plate. Specifically, it adds the phrase "to any resident who is arecipient of the Air Medal," to the list of eligible awards in Section 32-6-250. Additionally, it modifies the language regarding fees and eligibility for license plates, ensuring that recipients of the Air Medal will be subject to the same fees as those for the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, and Bronze Star. The bill also makes several nonsubstantive, technical revisions to update existing language, such as changing "a personan" to "individual" and "A personAn" to "individual" in the context of eligibility for license plates. Furthermore, it updates the designation for the special plates to include "or AM" for the Air Medal in Section 32-6-251. The act is set to take effect on January 1, 2024, following its passage and approval by the Governor.
