2 ENROLLED, House Joint Resolution,
3 COMMENDING DR. ADAM CLEMONS ON BEING NAMED ALABAMA'S
4 2020 HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR.
5
6 WHEREAS, we take great pride and pleasure in
7 extending highest commendation to Dr. Adam Clemons on being
8 named Principal of the Year by the Alabama Association of
9 Secondary School Principals; and
10 WHEREAS, a 19-year veteran of education, Dr. Clemons
11 has had the roles of teacher, department head, assistant
12 principal, and principal; in 2013, he became the principal of
13 Piedmont High School in the Piedmont City School System; and
14 WHEREAS, the Principal of the Year title is awarded
15 on the basis of a number of criteria, including experience,
16 excellence achieved, professional contributions, and prior
17 recognitions; secondary and middle school principals are
18 nominated for this achievement by peers in their state and
19 final selections are made by committees appointed by each of
20 the National Association of Secondary School Principals' state
21 affiliate offices; and
22 WHEREAS, Dr. Clemons' academic credentials include
23 an Educational Specialist Degree and Doctorate Degree from
24 Argosy University, a Master's Degree from Jacksonville State
25 University, and a Bachelor's Degree from Auburn University;

1 Dr. Clemons utilized a new educational initiative, a
2 teachers-as-advisers program, which is being used as a model
3 for the State of Alabama; in his time as principal,
4 extracurricular participation has grown 20 percent, the
5 graduation rate has increased eight percent, and discipline
6 referrals decreased by over 50 percent; he has been selected
7 as one of the three finalists for the National Principal of
8 the Year Award by the National Association of Secondary School
9 Principals and is the first finalist for the State of Alabama;
10 and
11 WHEREAS, through the years, Dr. Clemons has
12 exhibited an unwavering commitment to excellence; he has
13 earned widespread respect for his tireless dedication and his
14 exceptional skills; he personifies the finest qualities of
15 those who enrich the lives of Alabama's youth through the
16 noble vocation of education; now therefore,
17 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
18 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Dr. Adam Clemons is honored
19 and commended upon being selected Alabama's 2020 High School
20 Principal of the Year, and this resolution is offered in
21 highest tribute to him along with best wishes for success in
22 all future endeavors.
