The bill amends AS 14.16.200(b) to update the reimbursement costs that school districts can claim for students attending residential schools. It specifies that districts may claim costs for one round trip on the least expensive means of transportation between the student's community and the school, as well as a per-pupil monthly stipend for room and board expenses.

The new stipends for room and board are set regionally and have been increased from previous amounts. The updated maximum amounts are $1,549 for the Southeast Region, $1,512 for the Southcentral Region, $1,829 for the Interior Region, $1,901 for the Southwest Region, and $2,237 for the Northern Remote Region. These changes reflect an increase in funding to better support students in residential schools across Alaska.
