This bill amends existing laws regarding the sale and dispensing of alcoholic beverages by patriotic organizations in Alaska. It modifies AS 04.09.220(d) to allow military personnel on active duty to purchase alcohol from patriotic organizations without the requirement of a reciprocity agreement. Additionally, it expands the scope of nonprofit organization event permits under AS 04.09.660(a) to permit patriotic organizations to sell or dispense not only brewed beverages and wine but also other alcoholic beverages at their events. The bill also clarifies that all profits from these sales must go to the organization holding the permit, as stated in the amended AS 04.09.660(e).
Furthermore, the bill defines "patriotic organization" to include groups such as the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, as added in the new paragraph under AS 04.21.080(b). It also repeals a previous section of law, AS 04.09.220(j), which may have contained outdated provisions. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
