This bill amends Alaska's law regarding funding for residential schools by updating the reimbursement costs that school districts can claim. Specifically, it modifies the per-pupil monthly stipend for room and board expenses, replacing fixed dollar amounts with a calculation based on the base student allocation set out in AS 14.17.470. The new stipends will be determined as a percentage of this allocation for different regions: 37% for the Southeast Region, 36% for the Southcentral Region, 44% for the Interior Region, 45% for the Southwest Region, and 53% for the Northern Remote Region. The previous fixed amounts have been deleted from the law.
Additionally, the bill includes a provision for retroactivity, stating that the changes will take effect from July 1, 2025. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage, as specified in the legislation.
