The bill amends Alaska's law regarding the offense of failure to use headlights while operating a motor vehicle. It specifies that a person commits this offense if they do not use headlights during certain times, including between one half-hour after sunset and one half-hour before sunrise, except during specific periods outlined in the new provisions. The bill introduces new requirements for headlight use, particularly during certain months and geographical locations, such as north of 60 degrees North Latitude from September 16 to April 30 and on paved portions of the Sterling Highway, as well as during designated periods for vehicles with studded tires or chains.
Additionally, the bill removes the previous provision that included designated traffic safety corridors as a condition for the offense. The new language clarifies the conditions under which headlights must be used, enhancing road safety by ensuring that vehicles are more visible during low-light conditions. The amended law will apply to offenses committed on or after the effective date of the Act.
