The bill amends Alaska's law regarding the offense of failure to use headlights while operating a motor vehicle. It specifies that a person commits this offense if they do not use headlights during certain times, including between one half-hour after sunset and one half-hour before sunrise, except during specific periods outlined in the new provisions. The bill introduces new requirements for headlight use, particularly during certain months and geographical locations, such as north of 60 North Latitude and on the paved portion of the Sterling Highway, as well as during periods when studded tires or chains are permitted under emergency orders.
Additionally, the bill removes the previous provision that included designated traffic safety corridors as a condition for headlight use. The new language clarifies the times and conditions under which headlights must be used, thereby enhancing road safety regulations. The amended law will apply to offenses committed on or after the effective date of the Act.
