This bill amends existing laws regarding occupational disability benefits for court services officers, peace officers, and firefighters in Alaska. It establishes that the monthly benefit amount for these employees, after the first 12 months of eligibility, will increase from 40 percent to 75 percent of their gross monthly compensation at the time of termination due to disability. Additionally, the bill defines "court services officer" and outlines their responsibilities, which include serving warrants, providing court security, and transporting prisoners.
Furthermore, the bill ensures that disabled members become fully vested in employer contributions made to their accounts upon appointment to disability. While receiving disability benefits, employers are required to make contributions to the employee's individual account without deductions from the disability payments. The bill also clarifies that the previous language regarding contributions has been modified to streamline the process. The Act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
