This bill amends existing laws regarding data sharing by the Department of Administration for the purpose of verifying driver's license data. Specifically, it modifies AS 28.05.068(a) to clarify that the department may not share any data with entities outside of the department that is not required for compliance with the REAL ID Act of 2005. The bill also removes the reference to the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators from the previous law. Additionally, AS 28.05.068(b) is amended to allow the department to convey data to a private entity only for the purpose of fulfilling the requirements of AS 28.15.151(g), rather than any scanned or stored documents.
Furthermore, the bill introduces a new subsection to AS 28.15.151, which mandates that the department must provide information to entities approved by the United States Social Security Administration upon request to assist in driver's license data verification. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
